Hey guys! I'm still taking a bit of a break from DA and the internet, but I'll try to maybe post something soon or something. I'm still horribly busy. Please don't feel bad if I have not gotten to your note or comment, I have a large backlog for them and will get through them slowly when I have time!
Anyways! There is a petition right now to ask the Mexican Government to reconsider their decision to cut spending the arts and culture for Mexico. If you would like to help out, please consider signing this petition: www.change.org/petitions/no-a-… . You do not have to be Mexican for your voice to matter! what the outside world (especially western) thinks of what Mexico does and how it reflects on them also matters to them, sadly, sometimes more than what Mexico's own people think.
If this is something you don't care about, or if you outright disagree with my opinion, please just move along.
Though it has been a very miserable 4 months, the last month particularly, I have now healthy enough to return to work and start to do normal people things again in moderation. I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for their patience, it's been a very stressful few months on several ends over this and I'm really grateful for how supportive and patient the community has been. It's going to take me a bit to get caught up with everything again, mostly with the charm and skin shop but I'll be working on it full time to get everything sorted out. I'll be back on track with commissions this week as well.
Charm & Skin Shop Update
Skin & Bag Shop Closing
I have a few points to get through, but first I would like to let everyone know that the shop will be closing orders for skins and bags for the year at the end of the week. If you had your eye on something, this is your last chance to get it. The charms for this season are gone forever and will not be re-stocked next year.
Do Not Continue Without Reading This:
From this point on, I am going to assume that you read my last journal from over a month ago and are up to date on the situation. If you are not, please read it here: sambees.deviantart.com/journal… before continuing.
As an update on that situation, while my friends have been very helpful to me on helping to get things out and sorting through a few e-mails, I have been on my own for the past month or so and have not been able to keep up with this at all. If you are waiting on an e-mail to be replied to, please do not continue to send e-mails as it will only get very confusing. Starting today I will be going through them with all my free time until they have all been dealt with and hope to have gotten back to everyone within the week.
I have also all-together stopped updating the manual e-mail/site status on the orders and haven't updated them for almost 2 months now since it is not an automatic system, so don't worry if your order is still reading as "un-shipped" on the website. Updating these is last priority for me right now since they don't actually effect anything, but I'll get to them.
It is always inevitable when sending hundreds of packages that some get returned, I have sent out a few e-mails over this, however I have not gotten any replies to them. We have received some returned packages and we have not been able to get a hold of some people and/or identify others. So far we have only been able to identify order number 1278 as this order, the rest we have only addresses for, and for obvious reasons we can not publicly post these. After I am done going through our e-mails we will begin trying to sort through and match addresses to order numbers and e-mails, however this may take us a little time to do. We will be re-attempting shipment in the meantime on these orders involving charms (as we believe an error might have occurred on my part on these ones), however orders involving skins will need to be dealt with via e-mail as there seems to be no issue with them.
Black Rock Shooter/Dead Master Charms
While I am eternally grateful that some of my friends and family where willing to help me out with charms during my time of sickness, it's been reported by a few that ordered the Dead Master charm that they where sent Black Rock Shooter. Apparently the person in charge of those charms that day was getting them confused with each other. If your Dead Master charm arrived as a BRS or as anything, or nothing else, please let me know and it'll be taken care of. They are well meaning, but unfortunately not anime fans
That Is All
Ok! I think that's all the shop updates for now x_x. I apologize again for the inconvenience of my situation and any errors or delays it might have caused. Do not worry, we will get everything sorted out! It is very important to me to have my shop running well and this whole situation has been extremely stressful. If your order was one of the unfortunate orders to get caught up in the mix, I really do thank you for your patience.
I'll be alone for Christmas this year so I'll have plenty of time to catch up
Hey guys! Long time no see! I just got back from C4 and I had a really good time, thanks everyone who came to see me ♥ Some of you who did may have noticed that I was looking a little off at the time and that is because I am going through some shit right now. About 2 months ago I became very ill and started having issues with my lungs and it has been steadily become worse as that time has gone on and become my lungs and heart. I have good days and crap days, and thankfully C4 where some great days but having been there has really messed me up again and I crashed pretty hard afterwards. I've never really been one to post much about what's going on in my personal life when shit's going down, but this has come to effect others as well and I feel that others deserve to know what's going on.
Because of this I have been forced to close the charms section of the shop earlier than expected. Though I have been receiving help with getting them out, I have still been doing most of the work and will no longer have that help and it is not something I can continue doing. This has not effected orders in the first batch but will likely effect orders from the second since now I am on my own.
Speaking of charms, but on a completely different note, we received notice a few weeks ago that Storenvy (the site that hosts our shop) started glitching out the time we opened our shop while testing out a new checkout system between them and paypal. This resulted in a large number of missing notifications and "phantom" orders. Many orders did not give us an e-mail notification of the order and thus did not make it into our "to ship" list as we where unaware of the orders, we have contacted storenvy about this and they are aware of the issue and helping us sort this out. We are able to still get these orders out by accessing them manually through the shop records instead of notifications and will be doing so from now on. Orders that had this issue where sent out later than the first batch and may take longer to arrive because of it. If you want to know if your order was one of these orders, you can drop us an e-mail via our contact page and we can check on your order for you. Unfortunately, other orders, the "phantom" orders, appear neither in our e-mail or our shop records, this is because these orders where never completed at all (not charged), despite the purchaser receiving an order confirmation to their inbox. This issue is not correctable on our end because these orders do not exist in anyone's databases. Phantom orders account for over 100 missing order numbers in our records, if you do not have an actual transaction ID in your paypal for your order, your order, unfortunately, did not happen.
Though it has taken some time, all of these issues have since been fixed by storenvy and it is not a problem with orders placed outside of that time-frame (their testing days) and should not happen again. I would also like to note that all the first batch charm orders have been sent out and I am just very behind in the e-mail notification process to let people know. If you are concerned your order you are welcome to e-mail us, however please note that replies may be slow due to the reasons in my first paragraph.
Private commissions are mostly on hold while I'm sick but I have been working on them little by little. Non private (book covers, illustrations and other deadlined commissions) will be given priority since I don't want anyone to miss their deadlines. I will not be taking anymore commissions on DA for quite a while, so please don't feel bad if I turn your request down, I have a lot on my plate right now and am unable to work as fast as I normally do.
I have come back to 2.5k messages and 92 notes x_x. I'm not sure how so many messages where able to pile up in the week and a half I was gone but I will try to get to them all, please be patient!
Anyways, with that I must go lie down, hope you all had a fun Halloween!
Hey guys! I've moving away from my DA print shop and I've opened my own with my studio here: fancyowl.storenvy.com/ which includes prints of things I never carried in my DA shop. You can also check out the other artists as well! This excites me greatly as now we can offer them for cheaper than DA will let us, with less expensive shipping than DA charges and with all of the proceeds going to the artists that run the shop.
We will also be doing giveaways for people who help us get our shop out there. If you'd like to help us pimp our shop by posting about it in your journal, please leave a comment in this journal with a link to your journal and we'll count you into a raffle for a free print giveaway. The more people who do so, the more prints we'll offer. We'll do the draw for it at the end of next month
Hey guys! I'll bee in the artist ally at the Montreal Comic Con this weekend. I'll also be running around trying to be social. It's our first local con since we moved and we're dying to meet some new local peeps. If you're going to the con, it would be rad if you came by and said hi! We kind of got a shit deal on our location so we'll be facing the back wall it looks, so it may be a bit tricky to find us, however, I believe in you!
Hey guys, still have a few larger commissions to finish up so my illustration commissions are still closed, however I have 1 more sketch commission to complete and I'll have hit the end of the sketch lineup, which means I am excited to open the next sketch lineup
This time around I wanted to do something a bit different, so this will be more for people who like seeing new things done with their OCs or their fave characters. Each slot will have a theme attached to it that is not changeable and a variable of the theme that you choose for yourself. I will then design a costume for your character following that theme and draw them in it.
Themes will have different prices attached to them based on the level of time and detail planned for each image. All characters are full body.
If you'd like to claim one of the commission slots, please send a note to my account with the subject "My Character As Commission". In the body, please include the following info:
Your Paypal: [ I will send a bill to this account ] Theme: [ which theme do you want? Example: FFTactics Class ] Variable: [ what is your choice variable? Example: Mime Class ]
Name of Character: Age: [ if different than how they appear, give me both ] Height: Race: Normal Job/occupation: [ example: cop, wizard, highschool student, etc.] Personality: [ please limit to 1-3 sentences. ] Image References: [ at least 1 required ] Other Notes For Me: [ things you want me to know about your character/include that may not be obvious ]
You may request more than one slot, if you wish to do this, please fill out a separate form for each character. If your preferred theme is filled before your note is reached and you would not mind a different theme slot, you may also list alternate themes you are interest in in order of preference and I will slot you in for those if your first choice is full before I get to you. If you are requesting this as a fanart of an existing character, please include with the character name the series they are from.
Pretty much immediately after the move I had to split again for convention season. Having to organize 5 conventions at once by yourself while moving 3 people, one of which is in another country only to have to jump up and leave again is no picnic. Thanks to everyone who came and saw us at Anime Central and CCEE! I am now in Calgary for a while, stranded here until I can fly back after anime north and it has gotten a little frustrating. My tablet is broken, so I have nothing to draw into the computer on and I don't have a scanner so I can't scan anything. My art life has been put on hold and all the console games I'm working on are on hold. But has given me a little time to catch up on something I used to really like to do: play Ragnarok Online.
I play on a small, mid-rate server called FusionRO: www.fusionro.com/ I play a priest named Kaid if anyone wants to come have some adventures with me. It is so very boring here...
Hey guys, I know I haven't been updating much of anything lately aside from the occasional bus doodle and I hate having to leave so many "oh hold" messages on the various projects you may or may not follow. Life has been kind of rough for the past few months and it has finally come time to just give up and go. Luckily, we where able to find a place fairly quickly and we're getting our shit together to move out in a day. We won't have any internet when we move in so you might not hear from me for a little while. I apologize if anyone has anything important they need to get a hold of me for, I will try to check my messages when I can.
When I get back I will make an update for the kickstarter donators, but just a quick update to answer 2 of our most frequently asked questions, we did meet our goal, Amazon is still holding onto the money and we can not process the orders until we get it, which should happen in 2-3 weeks.
I Know that it is common knowledge that the art-world generally regards deviantart as a beckon of professionalism and respectability. To see something like this while browsing for serious prospective employees on another busy work sunday on a serious talent search site that is totally serious business guys is totally going to get you banned from the art world and loose you all the jobz you would have gotten that day! This is an outrageous prank! This is not what DA is about!
Come on guys, perspective.
If your gallery is so important to your life and career that you can not stand to have even one of your precious thumbnails momentarily obscured lest every employer decide that cats are no longer the "in" thing this year and black list you from the industry, you probably shouldn't be on DA. Yes, some people get a lot of traffic from DA, but lets be honest, this is not an appropriate site in which to host any kind of serious portfolio. Fine, get found, link your gallery elsewhere. This shit is not going to effect you in any serious way. Hell, it's not going to effect you in even the most minor way. Your art is not un-viewable, your art is not gone, no one is "messing" with your work. I am willing to concede that DA's AF pranks have gotten exponentially dumber as the years go on, but the fact of the matter is, this shit happens every year, if after this long this shit continues to surprise you, you are officially too dumb to function on the internet.
I think my favorite non-point that I've read, just in front of "they're destroying my livelihood" and just behind "I am going to leave DA forever!!" is "I am a paying subscriber and I am paying for this service!". What service? "We will not play jokes on april fools" is not part of the subscription package. Could someone please point out the exact service that you are paying for that is being taken from you?
We're all here for wacky fun! Mudkips, llamas and good times! Whooo art! Let's face it. DA is not a serious site in any regard and their business model for the past 5 or 6 years seems to be to pander to the lowest common denominator in whatever irrelevant way it can. It's not a serious art site, it's not a serious social network, it's barely a myspace. The staff don't treat it seriously, the art world doesn't treat it seriously, the only people who seem to think that DA is srs bzns are the users who are too slow to catch on that this site is just one big joke to everyone but them.
Unfortunately, kickstarter does not allow Paypal payments due to the system they use being incompatible with Paypal, however, since we reached our bare minimum goal, we will now be able to for sure produce this book and prizes, which means we are now able to offer bundles through paypal while following their ToS. We've received quite a few notes with requests to purchase these packages through paypal and we are excited to now be able to offer them to you.
You can view all of our prize bundles here: kickstarter.com/projects/fancy… (please read the rewards section of the description rather than the right hand side since we are unable to update it and often we have more prizes than it lists which will be listed in the description area)
Rewards given through paypal donators will be slightly more delayed than those sent out through kickstarter (see kickstarter page for estimated dates) since we need time to process each order individually rather than bundled like kickstarter does for us so please be patient.
To order a pack, please fill in the form below and send your order as a note with the subject line "AVI KICKSTARTER PLEDGE" to the account *DemonRoad .
Your Name:(this will go on shipping labels so please give us at least a real first name) Your Paypal:(we will bill this account the requested amount) Your Shipping Address:(you can leave this blank for pledges of $10 and below as no shipping is required) Pledge Amount:(how much money you wish to pledge) Reward Bundle:example: $15 bundle(you can choose any bundle up to or equal to your pledge amount as listed here: kickstarter.com/projects/fancy… , If you would like to pledge without receiving a reward please state so here. If this option is left blank you will receive the bundle associated with your pledged amount) Other Notes:(anything else we should know?)
We've recieved a lot of e-mails over the past few years asking us about the status of the comic, and the short answer is: it's in limbo. We have not stoped developing or working on this comic, however, it is not something we can afford to do right now. Both of the artists work 14+ hour days, 7 days a week to make ends meet and it doesn't really leave us much if any time to work on much else. We can't afford to take any time off of working for other people to do this or we won't be able to survive, we can't even afford to heat our home (which really sucks in Canada).
Sometime this morning I accidentally ended up mass deleting about 100 unread notes. Actually I'm not sure if I deleted them or if it was some sort of weird DA glitch since I never went to the notes page, but regardless, they where marked as read and then removed. Unfortunately, I have not actually read them yet and I can not find them, so if you had a note that I never got back to you on, chances are it was in my unread queue and was mass removed. Please send them to me again if you need me to get back to you on something, I am very sorry.
We received a lot of requests to post comic updates to DA. We are not too sure why since people can easily read them on the comic's webpage or follow in Smackjeeves, but I guess for the DA junkie it is the easiest way for some people to track art. We have decided to make a new account for the comic to minimize the spamming of our watchers on our regular accounts.
If this interests you, feel free to watch the account: *DemonRoad
Right now all we have up is the intro (drawn embarrassingly long ago when I was not very good) and a splash page, we will continue to update the account once a week with a page until we are caught up to the website. We will also be uploading additional artwork for the comic on this account as well as some sketchwork and doodles that we normally wouldn't upload anywhere else. It is a bit of a pain to manage 2 accounts on two different pages for a comic but if the account receives a decent amount of interest we will continue to update it often and perhaps make updates more frequently. Hope to see you there!
It's been recommended to me by one or two people but I couldn't really get anything out of them as to why it was better to work in for making manga than photoshop. I'm always interested in faster and more streamlined ways to do my comics and such but I don't feel like I can find any real info on it and demos are usually not long enough for me to get the hang of a program. can anyone out there who's used both shed a little more light on this for me?
If you have clicked the link that lead you here, I will assume you are here to learn about the haunted poster. I know that any claims I may make in defense of my rationality and sanity will be in vein and that those who believe anyone who could say such things as I am about to must be neither rational nor sane. For the record, I consider myself an average person of average experiences and average understand of the world we live in. As such, an experience as un-average as this sounds just as absurd to me as it surely does to you, but it is true, and it is this:
A year or two ago (as of writing, 2012), my friend and fellow artist came to visit me in Toronto for the summer. Having never seen the Royal Ontario Museum, my visiting friend and another friend of mine decided to take a day trip into the city to see the museum. Near the end of the trip we visited a section of the museum full of common artifacts (cups, furnature, brushes, that sort of thing) from what appeared to be from Victorian to Post Edwardian era europe. Many of these artifacts in this area where set up like individual rooms behind glass (such as living-rooms) with these artifacts shown and placed how they would have appeared and been displayed in these homes (if anyone familiar with the ROM could tell me which room this is, it would be appreciated). Near the back of this room we found a very plain looking set of silver bathroom objects such as a hairbrush, and most notably, a small, vanity sized mirror.
This mirror, though plain and undecorated, was clearly not ordinary, though we could not pinpoint why. There was something about this mirror pulling us towards it. We stood together and looked into this mirror and we could not help but feel sick. In our reflection, we where standing together, framed much like a classic portrait. Our eyes where dark and lifeless, we could not make eye contact with ourselves, our reflections could not smile, despite the fact that our third friend was, and always is smiling. We looked dead and we could not look away, we could not smile, we could not change. It was like seeing a 19th century Post-mortem portrait (look it up). After some effort we managed to quickly walk away. We had all seen and experienced the same thing, we felt dizzy and continued to feel drawn towards the piece, despite our distance. Myself and one of my friends slowly made our way back over, careful not to catch our reflections in the mirror, to read the plaque in front of the silver pieces. The bathroom set had belonged to a Russian nobel family who where killed in their homes during a war and their belongings taken. The mirror had previously been decorated with custom family etchings, which where filed down and removed from the mirror entirely. Who the mirror was sold to or how it ended up where it did was not explained.
The draining, sickening feeling followed us home and settled in the face of a character (Dominique) on a poster hanging on my wall. It remained there for weeks, we could escape the horrible feeling of being around this poster or the room containing the poster. If we fell asleep in the same room as the poster, we would have horrible nightmares. We got little sleep and we did not know what was wrong. Some of our more spiritual friends came to visit one day and immediately noticed the presence and it's source, over the next day or two we managed to get rid of heavy presence that had haunted us since our visit to the museum. To be safe, I removed the poster from my wall and kept it safe in it's tube.
A few years later after having moved, and still having the poster, we have hung it on our wall in order to film our kickstarter video. Since then it has remained on our wall and still sets us a bit on edge to look at it. Despite the presence having been removed from the poster, the memory of the weeks this poster tormented us and neither of us will allow it to be kept in our own rooms. This poster will never be the same again.
I just got back home super late last night but haven't quite had a chance to unpack yet. I feel super behind on shit and more than a little stressed. I had been called back home to help take care of my father who had just got out of the hospital after surgery to remove cancer in his kidneys and clots in his lungs. He's feeling much better now. I thought I would get to spend a bit more time with my family but everyone went to work and continued plans with other people and my dad mostly slept or wanted to be left alone. This was supposed to be my christmas break for this year since I can not afford to go twice and it was very lonely and not very festive. I wasn't able to get any work done while I was there as my travel tablet was not being agreeable or letting me draw so now I am super behind on things. I'm sure I can catch up in a few weeks, but in the meantime it feels like eternity
I am happy to be back home now. This is the first year that I've had my cat and his winter fur came in while I was gone, he looks so ridiculously massive. He is a rescue cat and was already 2 years old when I got him, but he is still growing every day. He's like twice the size now. I hope he doesn't get too big. I know talking about my cat might sound a bit boring, but it distracts me from the bigger disappointment waiting for me when I got home:
Skyward Sword, First Imressions
I picked up skyward sword while I was gone and have played through the first bit of it. For fans of Zelda who are wondering what this new installment plays like, it plays like "Zelda, J-RPG Edition". For a Zelda game, it's pretty shitty. I have never played a Zelda game I didn't like before so I'm not really sure what to make of it. It will likely be the fist Zelda game I don't bother finishing. If you're really into the J-RPG thing, you'll probably like it (if you can get past the fact that it's supposed to be a Zelda game).
Shitty, poorly written "oh I love her because she holds her hands to her chest, leans forward and looks dreamy at me for an awkward length of time" romances, annoying "find x number of y to upgrade" equipment systems and terrible fanfic level dialog just don't do it for me. I commend trying to make it a bit more character driven than "go here and do this because I say so" driven (as seen in games like OoT), but character based games are really only compelling if the characters are interesting. I don't know if the developers ran out of time or what, but they forgot to give their characters any sort of personality. While they where forgetting shit, they also forgot to finish the animation on link's running, climbing and picking things up movements. The framing in camera is terrible, the game lacks any sense of mood or pacing, the exposition is as smooth and well integrated as a fork up my un-lubricated ass and I can't think of anything nice to say about the cinematography of this game. If I hadn't been told otherwise, I'd think I was testing an unfinished game. There is something wrong going on when your current gen console makes the animation from the original OoT look on the ball.
Anyone who tells you that this is an origin story is lying to you. When you start this game, there is already a god/godess system set up, there is already a hero of legend, a back-story that doesn't involve you, etc etc. Link doesn't offer anything to this story other than to do shit other people tell him to. I don't know what this is an origin of, the sword exists already, the hero exists already and hyrule exists already. Everything else is just so much superficial window dressing.
For the few people who will ask, the wii motion works alright I guess. There's kind of an awkward delay between doing something and link doing it, but the monsters take a while to walk over, put on their makeup and do a few warm-up stretches before they attack so it evens itself out pretty well. I've been told that this is the best game the wii has to offer, but this is sort of like telling me that the week old moldy cake is the best thing my trash bin has to offer.
I'm all for changing and evolution and I am glad that they are moving in new directions (as you can probably tell by the events of this comic). I am however, disappointed that that direction seems to have lead them strait off a cliff. I keep reading reviews of praise about this game and I feel like I'm living in some sort of bizzaro universe where FF13 was game of the decade and twilight princess was shit.
It is a strange and terrifying universe.
I'll probably write a more in-depth review on this game when I finish it. I'm not really interested in hearing excuses that people keep making for this game. "oh it's on the wii so it has to look like shit" Bullshit, both the Zelda Game-cube titles looked better than this. "oh well zelda has never been about the characters so it's stupid to complain about them" Bullshit. This game is trying to be character driven and it's failing. Zelda has always been about good story, engaging gameplay and challenging puzzles. This game isn't about any of that. Even still, this has to have the worst writing and character dialogue I have ever seen in a zelda game, and I have seen the CD games. "They have tons more personality than before! look how happy he looks!" No, they have tons more facial expressions animated onto them, my cat can make most of these faces. If these characters didn't respond looking angry when someone told them they're going to destory the world, I would think they where psychopaths, not full of character. Their expressions say nothing about them other than the fact that they have the ability to respond appropriately (sometimes) to a situation. Every character forced upon me is cliche and tropey. It's all been done before, and better. "Oh well they're just trying something new, it doesn't need to be like zelda!" If it doesn't need to be "like zelda" then it doesn't need to be Zelda. I'm not just talking about recycling history, weapons, themes, etc. Zelda used to be about problem solving and puzzles and following a hero on his journey. So far the only puzzle to be seen in the first dungeon I have completed is "hit the thing with the other thing to make the door open" and you don't even have to figure that out, they hold your hand and point you to it. Not even different things. Crystals. The answer is always hit the crystals. And no, I don't think "flail the wiimote to confuse the eye" counts as a puzzle, which is incidentally, how I beat every monster and boss I've come across. I handed off my controller for the first fight with the demon boss guy to a friend who has never even held a wii mote or seen this game, i gave him no instructions and he still flailed his way to victory. This is not a skill based game. I am not following a hero on his journey. I'm following some bored kid to the corner store to get milk for his mom. This is a Zelda game made by the people who have set high standards for the gaming industry in their time. I expect more from them.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is, you shouldn't have to make excuses for a game. A good game speaks for itself.
But if you liked this game, more power to you, as a zelda fan I tried REALLY hard to like this game. I look forward to the flames the journal will receive. I'm probably not going to respond to many people since most of the comments will be "you are wrong because I say so" and there is no real discussion to be had in that. I'm not enjoying the game and there isn't really anything anyone can say that will make me suddenly start liking it just as I am sure (and hope) that what I have said here will not stop people who like it from doing so. Even if I probably won't reply (or read it at all) you're welcome to say it if you like just the same.
I haven't done one of these on DA since I left my old account and I think 8 years later, it's time for one again. Over the years I've had a bit of a love-hate relationship with DA, but the one thing that I have constantly loved and has kept me here all this time is you guys. Back before I became "budgie" the kinds of comments and questions I get where a lot different than the ones I get now. People used to be much more interested and personally invested in one another and I had actually made quite a few friends here on DA that started as fun little conversations from interesting and relevant comments. I can't tell if it's because something about me has become less approachable over the years or if the attitude of the community on DA has simply changed over the years. I have heard comments for this on both sides of the fence, everything from "I think you are too popular to be interested in me" to "DA has created an environment of impersonalization and dehumanization of it's artists and users" and if you'd like to add your own thoughts on this in this journal you are welcome to. Admittedly, I don't share much about myself or my life here on DA anymore save for the occasional sarcastic commentary or journal rant and I can see how this faceless entity that occasionally posts artwork could feel a bit daunting. Regardless of the reasons, I wanted to set aside some time to do this in the hopes that maybe I can dispel a bit of speculation and let people who are interested in getting to know me a little better the chance to do so.
You can ask me whatever you want and I will answer as many of the questions as I can through my comments and will update them in this journal with the questions and answer comment thread. If I end up getting too many I will have to pick and choose a little bit, especially if they require longer answers than a few sentences. I don't mind answering questions about my art or techniques but I'm not going to reply to questions that require writing out a lengthy walkthrough/tutoring, nor will I answer vague questions. You can ask me anything you like, personal or otherwise, however if I feel the question is inappropriate, adequately covered in my FAQ or irrelevant to the spirit of this exercise, I'll hide it so that I don't think it's a question I missed. I am going into this with the attitude and mindset that any question asked of me is asked with good intentions and with genuine interest to better understand me and the way I do things and not out of malice, spite or offense, so please do not concern yourself with offending me.
I would also like to state before anyone starts in on this, I will not be answering questions on my thoughts on skyward sword. This is not because I am not interested in discussing this, it is because I am not interested in discussing this right now. I am currently working on a full review of this game and at this point, I feel I am only repeating myself on things that have already been said. I will be happy to discuss this further after the review is posed.
Please read through the already proposed questions before posting your own to see if someone has already asked the question you wanted to ask. Doubles of questions will be hidden so I do not think I have missed a question when going through them. I have written over top of an old secret santa journal that is no longer relevant, so the mass of hidden comments near the beginning is from that so not to get in the way, just ignore them.
Q: What do you think is the best way to advertise and promote your art? Is your artmaking a primary source of your income/do you make a relatively substantial amount from doing it? comments.deviantart.com/5/4504…
After a very long (4 year) hiatus, I am finally ready to open standard commissions again. Commission slots available will be based on type, once a certain type is full, I will not be opening more of them for this round. Because these are not sketch commissions, these commissions may take some time depending on where you are on the list. I will try to do them as fast as I can without sacrificing quality. If you are one of the firsts on the lists, your commission will obviously not take too long.
With non-sketch commissions, individual commission will be priced based on your character, image complexity, style and type, so the prices below are estimates. Please note that upon commissioning me, you are agreeing to my ToS listed in my general information here: budgie.deviantart.com/journal/… . Prices do not include backgrounds. All BGs are priced separately and on an individual basis unless otherwise stated. Prices are per character.
Image references MUST be provided, even if they are not specifically drawings of your character to give me a better, visual idea of what you are looking for. If you do not have images of your actual character and/or do not adequately describe what is required for me to draw, I will not go back and re-draw/add what you missed, so please fill out your character sheet in the most detail as possible.
To submit your character, please send a note with the subject "COMMISSION SLOT" to the account ~RedBeanViolin. DO NOT SEND REQUESTS TO MY `sambees ACCOUNT.
In the message body, please include:
Commission Type: (example: Illustrative Commission Type 1, half body) Your Paypal Address: (I will send you an invoice to this account for the commission) This Character Sheet:paperchainproject.deviantart.c… (note: while this states that reference images are optional, they are not for these commissions)
More slots will not be open until the below slots have been filled and completed.
