I remember a setting on every computer that allows the original site of something. There are vids that show how, such as how to get the old, favored YouTube back.

errru should really get off of your high horse. Deviantart DOES NOT pander to the lowest common denominator, there's some damn unique artwork on the front page every week, and there is some fanart that slips in too, but that's pretty good too! And deviantart is a serious art and social site, it's above myspace and facebook. The way the prints are organized is excellet, allowing artists to buy prints of deviations and allowing the sellers to receive a good chunk of money from the sale. It's not perfect, but it's the best (and only good) site in my book. That is all

this rant is stupid, for all the things to get upset about this is a useless one, da never presented itself as being completely serious, and if you dont like it so much why dont you move on then...? and if the art world does not think DA is "serious" why are there so many serious and popular artist on it? So excuse DA for trying to take the stuffieness out of art excuse them plz but really if ur so serious for this site then leave...but u wont

Usually I just avoid the internet on april fools because most of the 'pranks' are incredibly stupid. On the other hand if people are getting their panties in a twist over some cats invading the website they post their gallery to for one day, they need to not take things so seriously. :/

I personally thought it was the most original and fun April Fool's joke yet.

A professional artist shouldn't use dA as their main portfolio in the first place. That's like promoting yourself mainly on Facebook rather than Linked-In. You're on a website with teenagers. It's not the April Fool's joke that makes you look unprofessional.

The first april fools prank I experienced on DA was the Twilight prank xD I was kind of upset then, because I didn't know it was a joke, I thought someone had hacked my account or something. But I have learned my lesson now!
I don't think it's such a negative thing, yes some can get upset, but it's a prank! And I like that they are willing to do something other then just being a regular (boring) site, and I like that they aren't little pussies that are scared of scaring away some hot headed people who can't take a joke.

They were communist style posters promoting cats, and General Whiskers.
When you click on said posters you got a little cat fact.

I get most of my business through DA. But becoming upset at the potential of losing a possible customer because of a very mild prank that happens one day out of the year seems like a terrible life-philosophy. Worrying that hard is damaging to one's thought patterns. It's better just to shrug it off rather than baw over imagined job offers.

Surely anyone browsing DA at the time would sort of get that it was an April's Fools joke, right? Surely they wouldn't hold the artist accountable and go: omg no, I'm not hiring you because the website you were on had weird pictures of cats >:C

At most, it was mildly annoying. But if people really can't have a genuine sense of humor for one day, they really shouldn't be on DA to begin with.

You are simply blowing this way out of proportions .. numerous sites on the internet and even sites of "PROFESSIONAL" multi-billion companies (at least in the medium of gaming and art .. i.e .. Blizzard) pull pranks on that day (imagine a respectful uptight investor in Vivendi sees the pranks Blizz pulled off and files a complaint to Blizz CEO about them wasting resources on jokes and imaginary products that never existed .. does it ever happen .. NO) .. and it is just one day in 365 days ... big deal .. not to mention .. the cat uprising prank could easily be disabled with simple click (in case you didn't know).

Also .. if you are oh-so-keen on keeping a professional protifolio strictly for business purposes .. there is a specialized service on DA just for that and its separate from the site and its non-harmful light-hearted pranks as it is housed on a different domain ... there is an article about in case you didn't know about that feature --->( [link] )... and there is a free version and a premium one for paying subscribers (with unique domain names).

As for the whole "the only people who seem to think that DA is srs bzns are the users who are too slow to catch on that this site is just one big joke to everyone but them.
"
.. yeah .. yeah .. say that to the numerous world famous artists who share their art here on the site.

Actually, we DO have a number of world famous sculptors, concept artists and illustrators on DA who work in the movie and advertising industry, as well as a number of professional comic book artists. (ones who work for major labels like Marvel, DC, Top Cow and Darkhorse)

But none of those artists are dumb enough to be ONLY using DA to represent their artwork.

Most of those artists have their own professional website to promote their stuff. DA is just another way for them to get exposure.

I understand that these people exist, but trust me, none of them keep DA as their sole portfolio and rely on DA every day to make or break them. This just doesn't happen. The point isn't that professional artists don't exhibit on DA. That was not once stated in this journal. Hell, I'm a professional artist and I post a small sample of my work on DA too, but I'm not dumb enough to think that I am going to loose business over something yet another dumb social networking site I'm on does for one day. This is like bitching about having that guy automatically add me to his friend list on facebook after being on facebook for 6 years. People know what DA is about and what DA isn't about, especially the professionals. DA has a horrible reputation in the professional art industry from every side and no one in the real world treats this site like anything more than what it really is.

Well .. obviously there is a big difference between a normal professional artist (which is pretty much any artist working for money .. or sells art for a living whether he/she are selling this art through DA or during cons or freelancing) and a well known (renowned) artist that works in big companies (Marvel or DC for example) and has several well known works/projects .. someone like Adam Hughes, Adam Warren (who made Empowered), J.Scott Campbell .. etc etc .. i guess the difference is pretty obvious .. and all these artists share their art here on DA and have big galleries .. and they don't whine about April's fool pranks as far as i know .. and they are as professional as they get.

So chill out please, and go check the portfolio feature if you are really so keen on keeping an oh-so-professional portfolio as you say XD

Not with comments like that --> "DA is not a serious site in any regard and their business model for the past 5 or 6 years seems to be to pander to the lowest common denominator in whatever irrelevant way it can. It's not a serious art site, it's not a serious social network, it's barely a myspace. The staff don't treat it seriously, the art world doesn't treat it seriously, the only people who seem to think that DA is srs bzns are the users who are too slow to catch on that this site is just one big joke to everyone but them.

If the site is a big joke and that the so-called art world doesn't treat it seriously -as she claims- why would so many renowned artists post their work regularly here .. i'm sorry .. but making an April's fools joke doesn't make the site a joke nor make it myspace.

And DA is serious about keeping it professional .. otherwise they wouldn't have bothered to make a strictly separate portfolio service if you want to make a portfolio for business purposes only.

So what? The guy from Regular Show has an account here, but I'm pretty damn sure he has his own website off of DA.
You my friend are getting really upset for no reason.
This journal is simply stating that it was an April Fools joke, and people need to stop twisting their tits over it.

Also did your really think this site is serious? Are are you pulling my leg? If DeviantART was serious about being professional %100 percent of all the screenshot pics here would be gone, they would have a quality rating system that people rank others pictures with a 1-5(like they did when they first started), half the sparkledog shit and anime ripoffs wouldn't exist here, and this place would be selective as to who can become a member or not.
You want to see a professional art site go to ConceptART and tell me which one has more professionalism.

Don't delude yourself.

"I Know that it is common knowledge that the art-world generally regards deviantart as a beckon of professionalism and respectability. To see something like this while browsing for serious prospective employees on another busy work sunday on a serious talent search site that is totally serious business guys is totally going to get you banned from the art world and loose you all the jobz you would have gotten that day! This is an outrageous prank! This is not what DA is about!"

I was really surprised to see one amazing artist, who has multiple portfolios on the web, bitching about it. I mean - what is even the possibility that a potential client would look at your portfolio with a serious job on Sunday and on deviantART =.=

Very well put!

I don't see why these so-called professional artists put their stake so much on deviantArt. If they really are so serious, they should get a more polished, professional and clean way to display their artwork. If we go but what repels potential customers, heck, all the dArama should do it quite nicely.

Anyway, I don't think DA is serious at all. I mean, look at the front page when it's set to "newest deviations", it's a bunch of kids taking cellphone mirror pics of themselves :| sometimes even nude ones....... So, I no longer go on the main DA page, lol.
